African Leadership University (ALU) Current Prospectus

WELCOME TO ALU

African Leadership University or ALU is a network of tertiary institutions with operations in both Mauritius and Rwanda with a bachelor’s degree. ALU hopes to develop 3 million ethical and entrepreneurial leaders for Africa and the world. It uses a personalized, student-driven, project-based, and mission-oriented approach to create agile, lifelong learners who can adapt to a changing world. Its mission is to build 25 campuses across the continent and produce 3 million young African leaders, by equipping students with relevant skills that match the evolving world.

ALU’s first campus was launched in September 2015 in Mauritius and is known as the African Leadership College. Its second campus was launched in September 2017 in Kigali, Rwanda.

In 2008, Fred Swaniker, an African leadership development expert and Stanford Business School educated social entrepreneur, founded ALU’s sister organization, the African Leadership Academy, a secondary institution. In 2015, Swaniker then expanded his efforts further by establishing an institution of higher learning, the African Leadership University, dedicated to teaching leadership skills. In 2015 ALU opened its doors to more than 180 students from across Africa on its main campus in Mauritius. In 2019, ALU made it to Fast Company’s list of The World’s 50 Most Innovative companies.

What are the application deadlines?

Please note that applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Hence, you may apply at any point. However, consideration for your preferred intake is subject to the availability of seats for that intake. Furthermore, for operational reasons, we may not be able to consider any applications received beyond the deadlines in the table below.

Hence, you are advised to submit your application as early as possible; any late applications will generally be considered for the next intake.

African Leadership University (ALU) Admission Requirements

Minimum eligibility requirements for ALU Rwanda

Completion of a final national secondary school exam and graduation from secondary school with a certificate of secondary education on an A-Level or equivalent;

Having taken a minimum of 2 A-Level subjects or equivalent with a principle pass, and a C average national exam grade;

Evidence of having attained sufficient English language proficiency. See the English Language Proficiency requirements here.

Cost of study at ALU

We strongly believe that university education should be affordable. That’s why we have continued to optimize our learning experience and education model to ensure students have access to top-notch university education that is relevant, in-demand, and affordable.

This schedule has been prepared to give prospective students and parents adequate information on the ALU fee structure for ALU Rwanda. For ALU fees, you will need to make a place reservation payment in advance to secure the student’s seat. For the remaining fees for tuition and any campus life expenses, you will choose if you would like to pay upfront in one instalment or pay in two instalments. The first instalment for either option is due a few weeks before arrival on campus for your first term.
