Application Procedures for Mature Students

Do you not meet the standard university admission requirements? Have you been away from secondary or post-secondary school for at least one year? You may qualify for admission as a Mature Student.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The university will consider for admission mature students whose previous school performance or recent work record suggests a strong possibility for academic success.

Applicants who do not qualify for admission under standard admission requirements may be considered for admission if they:

are 20-59 years of age by the end of the calendar year to which they are applying (over 60? Visit our Senior Students section for more information).

have been away from secondary or post-secondary school for a minimum of 1 year

are a Canadian citizen or Permanent resident

Please note admission to certain degree programs has specific course prerequisites that must be met before admission will be granted. Please refer to the Programs and Admissions Requirement chart in the Academic Calendar.

FULL-TIME SEPTEMBER ADMISSION

To enroll full-time in Algoma University for September admission, you must apply via the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC). You can either apply online at www.ouac.on.ca or request a paper application from OUAC by calling 1-519-823-1940.

Use application 101 if you are currently enrolled in an Ontario high school, otherwise, use application 105.

All official transcripts (high school, university, and college) must be sent directly to:

Mature students should follow the application procedures listed above for full-time study; however, the following additional documents are required:

  1. Resume
  2. Letter of reference
  3. Letter stating goals
  4. Official transcripts (if applicable)

APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR JANUARY, MAY, AND PART-TIME ADMISSION

All January, May, and part-time applicants must apply directly to Algoma U online. For any questions about the application process, you can email info@algomau.ca or phone (705) 949-2301, ext. 4280.

Complete the Algoma U application.

Send official transcripts (high school, college, and university if applicable).

Send all Mature Student documents.

Send non-refundable $70 (CDN funds) application fee payable to Algoma U.
