MAGU appreciates and welcomes applications from persons who are sympathetic and deeply committed to Christ and his teachings. Hopefully, prospective students must have had a definite Christian conversion for at least one year prior to applying. They must exhibit sound moral character and agree to abide by the social, physical, and academic regulations of the school. Further, they must indicate their sincere support of, and adherence to, MAGU’s philosophy, principles, and values as demanded through the Statements of Fundamental Truths and the Student Handbook.


Prospective Candidates immediately from Secondary schools must:

    • Beholders of MSCE, IGSCE, or other internationally recognized qualifications comparable to ‘O’ level certificates with at least six credits including the English Language. The following is the Malawi Assemblies of God University’s interpretation of IGCSE results for admission purposes: A*= 1; A = 2; B = 3; C = 5; D = 7; EFG = 8.
    • Candidates who failed to satisfy the university entry requirements in the recent past (not more than five years but successfully improved their grades after re-sit for up to a maximum of four subjects may use their supplementary statements for purposes of accumulating credits. Please note that for purposes of accumulating grades, applicants cannot use two independent certificates, i.e. applicants who passed MSCE in a certain year such as 2008 or 2009 and were awarded a full certificate and sat again MSCE in 2010 and obtained another full certificate cannot combine grades from the two independent certificates.


    • Candidates with ‘A’ level qualifications must have a minimum of three principal passes with an aggregate of at least 9 points obtained in 2014, 2013, or 2012. For purposes of selection, A-level grades are interpreted as follows: A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1.
    • Candidates with an International Baccalaureate (IB) must have a minimum of 30 points.
    • Candidates with an Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Certificate must have achieved at least grade ‘C’ in four
      A-Level recognized subjects and one IGCSE Credit including the English Language.
    • Candidates with a National Senior Certificate (NSC) must have a minimum score of 60% (Achievement Level 5) in four designated NSC subjects including English

Post-Secondary School Candidates also known as Mature Entry Applicants:

  • Must have a Malawi School Certificate of Education or its O-Level equivalent qualification with at least four (4) credits including English
  • A University Diploma from an accredited program and recognized examining bodies. There may be further Credit transfer consideration on the nature of the diploma.
  • A minimum of two (2) years post diploma work in a field related to that being applied for.
  • Specific Credit Transfer under Direct Credit Transfer Agreements will facilitate a transfer of block credits and,
  • Applicants must also meet specific requirements demanded under each program in the Faculty.


Transfer Students
MAGU will consider, for transfer purposes, credits earned at other accredited colleges and universities of “C” grade quality or above earned within the past ten years. However, such courses must be comparable to courses within the curriculum. These transfer credits will not affect the student’s grade point average (GPA) reported on the MAGU transcript. All candidates for graduation from MAGU must complete a minimum of 36 credit hours through MAGU prior to graduation, regardless of the number of credits transferred from other colleges or universities. Foreign Students
MAGU welcomes foreign students to attend the university. These students follow the same admission procedures as Malawi applicants except that their documents must be notarized by a relevant Education institution in the country of their origin.


Admissions Procedures
Each applicant for admission to MAGU must submit to the Registrar’s Office the following items:

  • Application for Admission, fully completed by the prospective student.
  • Secondary School Transcripts
  • A Medical Certificate: completed by a registered medical doctor, stating the applicant is in good health.
  • A non-refundable application fee as specified in the current fee schedule of the institution.
  • For those applying to the Faculty of Theology and Ministerial Formation, they must include a personal testimony statement: in the applicant’s handwriting. This testimony should reflect the following:
    1.  A statement of a definite experience of conversion through Jesus Christ.
    2.  An indication of the call of God to the Christian ministry (ministerial student).
    3.  A record of practical experience he or she has had in Christian service.
  • Two reference forms: A pastor’s Reference Form and a Church Leader Reference Form. These forms should be completed by those who have known the applicant for at least one year and who is not a relative.

After all required documents have been submitted, reviewed, and approved; applicants will be requested to come to the campus for an interview with the admissions committee before a decision can be made for acceptance.
