Civil Engineering Department (CED) is one of the five academic departments within RP-IPRC Musanze. The Department has excellent laboratories, workshops and state of art computing facilities. Civil Engineering Department equip students with skills and knowledge at Advanced diploma level in Construction Technology, besides it offers a big range of short courses mainly in Carpentry, Masonry, Welding, Painting, and Tiling.

With a target of meeting the labour market needs, Civil Engineering department provides high quality engineering education that meets the requirement for a professional practitioner in Civil Engineering sector.

1. Introduction

Welcome to the Civil Engineering Department (CED). CED is one of the five academic departments within RP-IPRC Musanze.

Civil Engineering Department equip students with skills and knowledge at Advanced diploma level in Construction Technology, besides it offers a big range of short courses mainly in Carpentry, Masonry, Welding, Painting, and Tiling.

With a target of meeting the labour market needs, Civil Engineering deparment provides high quality engineering education that meets the requirement for a professional practitioner in Civil Engineering sector.

Department members have published significant number of research papers in International Journals, National Journals and the Proceedings of various International and National Seminars, Conferences, Symposia and Workshops.

2. Expected Learning Outcome

Education is the enrichment of analytical and application skills of engineering principles along with overall personality development. The outcome  from Civil Engineering is that students fit well the market demands. Civil Engineering has adopted the specific program outcomes to be achieved during the training:

Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.

Ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.

Ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.

A broad education necessary to understand the impact of Civil Engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context.

Ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for civil engineering practice.

Ability to apply the essential underpinning knowledge that guides a range of projects, including road, rail and drainage systems, dams, harbours, bridges, buildings and other structures

Ability to explain basic concepts and problem solving processes used in management

3. Qualifications and Minimum requirements (including short courses)

Civil Engineering programme is open to local and international students interested in pursuing a career related to Construction Technology and Science.
