The Department of Information and Communication Technology aims at preparing computer technicians who will be competent enough to work readily as per current Information Technology Industries demands, and provide general, balanced basic knowledge and skills to students. It enables students to become self-employed as they get the chance for competencies optimization in ICT major areas.

The Department of Information and Communication Technology aims at preparing computer technicians who will be competent enough to work readily as per current Information Technology Industries demands, and provide general, balanced basic knowledge and skills to students. It enables students to become self-employed as they get the chance for competencies optimization in ICT major areas.
The increasing development of information technologies (IT) has significantly affected both firms and markets. IT is currently changing the world in a more permanent and far-reaching way than any other technology in the history of humankind. The Internet, the Web and the mobile platform are revolutionizing the way people, businesses and governments transact.
A new economy, where knowledge is the most important strategic resource, is forcing firms to review their traditional routines and take advantage of the tools able to create new value. Electronic commerce (e-Commerce) is still in its infancy but is already having an enormous impact on our activities and the way we relate to people and organizations.
The department of Information and Communication Technology comprises two training programs: Information and Technology; and E-commerce.
2. Departmental Training objectives
Program 1: Information and Technology: To train an IT technicians equipped with knowledge, competences and skills required to contribute to sustainable development of our country, to prepare students for successful careers as IT professionals and to make a positive contribution to society.
The department had a mission of producing IT technicians with concrete hands-on skills believed to accelerate the economic and social development of Rwanda.
Program 2: E-commerce: To train an E-commerce Technologists and Professionals equipped with competences and skills required for E-commerce. E-commerce qualification aspiring candidates to work in E-Commerce field confidently and professionally. It also benefits people who have been working within ICT field to obtain formal international recognition and enhance career progression, E-commerce professionals might obtain further education through advancement of technical skills in areas such as programming languages or database security.
The competences contained in this qualification are essential for social and economic transformation, empowerment and upliftment within the ICT field, whilst simultaneously improving the competence-based education of the country.
3. Career opportunities
Upon completion of this qualification, trainees will be able to gain access to job opportunities in ICT field both locally and internationally.
