ADMISSION FOR SEPTEMBER 2019 INTAKE
University of Livingstonia (UNILIA) was established in 2003 under the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Synod of Livingstonia.
It is guided by Christian values according to the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia. Its mission is to educate and inspire learners who shall
transform society, through excellence in teaching, research, consultancy, and learning environment. All University programs are
registered and accredited by the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE).
A. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES: Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for admission into various
undergraduate programmes for the September intake of the 2019-2020 Academic Year. Minimum entry requirements for
specific programmes are outlined below:

A. FACULTY OF EDUCATION

  1. Bachelor of Education in Science  Applicants should have a full MSCE or its equivalent with six
    (6) credits which should include English, Mathematics,
    Biology, Physical Science and other subjects.
     Applicants with Diploma in Education (Sciences) from a
    the recognised institution will be enrolled in 3rd year

    credits, including English and any two of the following subjects:
    Geography, History, Social Development Studies, Religious
    Studies and Life Skills.

    the recognised institution will be enrolled in 3rd year.

     Applicants should have a full MSCE or its equivalent with six
    (6) credits, including English and Mathematics.

 Applicants with a Diploma in Education (Sciences) from a
a recognised institution with a major in Mathematics may be
enrolled in 2nd year subject to evaluation of the transcript.

  1. University Certificate of Education (UCE)  Applicants should hold a minimum of a non-educational
    Diploma or degree from a recognized institution.
     Applicants should be those currently teaching in secondary
    schools or are interested in joining teaching at secondary
    school level.

  2. Bachelor of Science in Environmental
    Management
     Applicants should have a full MSCE or its equivalent with six
    (6) credits, including English, Physical Science, Biology and
    Mathematics.
     Applicants with a Diploma in Environmental Studies from a
    the recognised institution will be enrolled in 2nd year or 3rd year
    subject to evaluation of the transcript.
     Applicants with certificates in relevant fields will be enrolled
    in 1st year.

  3. Bachelor of Science in Public Health  Applicants should have a full MSCE or its equivalent with six
    (6) credits, including English, Physical Science, Biology and
    Mathematics.
     Applicants with a Diploma or equivalent qualifications in
    (Nursing and Midwifery, Clinical Medicine, Environmental
    Health) obtained from recognised institutions will be enrolled
    in 3rd year subject to evaluation of the transcript.
     Paramedics and those with Certificates in Clinical Medicine
    including Diploma in Biomedical Sciences and Nursing and
    Midwifery Technician Diploma from a recognised institution
    will be enrolled in 2nd year. The transcript will be required.

    Engineering
     Applicants should have a full MSCE or its equivalent with six
    (6) credits, including English, Physical Science, and
    Mathematics.

    the equivalent from a recognized institution may be admitted
    in 2nd year subject to evaluation of the transcript.
  5. Bachelor of Science in Food Security and
    Nutrition
     Applicants should have a full MSCE or its equivalent with six
    (6) credits, including English and Mathematics, and any of
    the following subjects: Physical Science, Biology, Agriculture,
    Home Economics, Geography and other subjects.
     Applicants with a Diploma in Food Security and Nutrition
    related courses from a recognised institution will be enrolled
    either in 2nd year or 3rd year, subject to evaluation of their
    transcripts.
     Those with certificates in related courses will be enrolled in
    first year.

  6. Bachelor of Social Sciences in Human Rights  Applicants should have a full MSCE or its equivalent with six
    (6) credits, including English and Mathematics.
     Applicants with an advanced Diploma in Development or
    Social Science-related fields from a recognised institution will
    be enrolled in 2nd year subject to evaluation of the transcript.

     Applicants with an Advanced Diploma in Development or
    Social Science related field from a recognised institution will

    transcript.
     Applicants with a Certificate in any Development or
    Extension Services or Social Sciences from a recognised
    the institution will be enrolled in 2nd year subject to evaluation of
    the transcript.

  8. Diploma in Theology  Applicants should have a full MSCE or its equivalent with six
    (6) credits, including English.
     Applicants for the Ministry or serving ministers in the CCAP
    Synod of Livingstonia should apply through appropriate
    church channels for enrolment

    2 Bachelor of Theology (Upgrading
    programme)
     Applicants should have a Diploma in Theology from a
    recognized institution.
     Equivalent courses should have a minimum of 55 points
    grade average or its equivalent.
     Applicants with a Diploma in Education and a major in TRS
    may apply but will be required to take additional courses.

    3 Bachelor of Arts in Theology and
    Development Studies
     Applicants should have a full MSCE or its equivalent with six
    (6)
    Credits, including English.
     Applicants with a Diploma in Theology or Developments
    Studies or Education with a major in Theology and Religious
    Studies and minors in Social and Development Studies from a
    recognised institution will be enrolled in 3rd year subject to
    evaluation of the transcript.

  9. METHOD OF PAYMENT OF FEES PER SEMESTER
     All applicants should provide proof of capability to pay the required fees.
     Students should pay half of the required fees per semester in order to be registered. The fees balance should be paid in at least two
    instalments before commencing date of examinations.
     Students are required to deposit fees to the bank and produce the deposit slip during registration.
     Only students who have paid the required fees and fulfilled registration requirements will be given the authority to attend classes and
    access other services.
     The Council of the University of Livingstonia reserves the right to amend all fees during the course of the academic year.

    FEES FOR UNIVERSITY CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION
    Fees for UCE are Three Hundred Thousand kwacha only (MK300,000) per semester. Candidates should note that UCE begins the first week
    of July every year.
    Note:
     The collection and determination of catering fees are solely in the hands of service providers. Students will be expected to pay
    directly to service providers for their food. Details of payments will be provided in the offer letter.
     The University does not use an agent in the recruitment of its students,
     Those students scheduled for Teaching Practice and Attachments will be required to pay a contribution fee of MK50, 000.00
    before the commencement of these programmes. This fee does not cater for accommodation.

    Programme delivery
     The programmes will be offered through both Coursework and Research, or by Research only.
     The Masters’s by Coursework and Research will be done in two years, with one year dedicated to coursework on the campus,
    while the second year to research.
     Master by Research will be completed in three years, through extensive research work, writing of modules and a dissertation.
    Eligibility
    Interested candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in Theology, Education (humanities), or Social and Development Studies,
    with credit, or equivalent fields from a well-recognized institution. Students with a strong pass in the stated fields may also be
    considered.

    Upon admission into the programmes, students should pay at least half of the required fees for the whole programme. The remaining

    Other related costs such as accommodation, meals, book allowances, field research and medical cover will be the student’s
    responsibility

Ekwendeni. In case the forms are not available, applicants can simply send their application letters to the University Registrar.

  1. APPLICATION PROCEDURE
     Application forms can be obtained from the University Registrar in Mzuzu, Laws Campus at Livingstonia, Ekwendeni Campus,
    Emmanuel Teacher’s College and CCAP Livingstonia Synod church (Area 47) in Lilongwe, Zomba Theological College in Zomba.
     Applicants should attach to completed forms; copies of certificates, notification of results slips or transcripts and a bank deposit
    slip for the application fee. Incomplete applications and those submitted without the required application fee will not be
    considered.
     The Council of the University of Livingstonia reserves the right to amend all fees during the course of the academic year.

     Completed application forms should be returned with a non-refundable application fee of MK7, 000 (undergraduate
    programmes) and MK 10,000 (Postgraduate Programmes) for Malawian applicants and US$50 for international applicants and
    a copy of the MSCE Certificate or its equivalent.
     Upgrading applicants should provide copies of the following documents failing which their applications will not be considered:
    i. A copy of the MSCE or its equivalent.
    ii. Previous academic records (transcript) for Diploma and certificate holders.
    iii. Curriculum vitae.
