Eligibility

Washington University of Barbados is aspiring to be one of the Medical Universities in the Caribbean.

PREMEDICAL PROGRAM (5.5 YEARS)

Age Requirement

Applicants must be at least 18 years old by the time of admission to WUB. However, applicants younger than the required age may be accepted at the discretion of the Dean. The Dean will scrutinize previous coursework, academic requirements and the talent of young applicants to determine admission.

Academic Requirements

Successful completion of Senior secondary school for students with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and/or Mathematics* at Senior Secondary level.

OR

IB (equivalent to A-levels).

OR

Completion of High School Diploma.

MD PROGRAM (4 YEARS)

Age Requirement

Applicants must be at least 18 years old by the time of admission to WUB. However, applicants younger than the required age may be accepted at the discretion of the Dean. The Dean will scrutinize previous coursework, academic requirements and the talent of young applicants to determine admission.

Academic Requirements

Coursework from a Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree with fulfilled premedical prerequisites is acceptable. Life Sciences is a major with minimum subjects ranging from General Biology or Zoology, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and General Physics with labs and experiment credits included for all subjects listed.

OR

A minimum of two academic years of post-secondary education such as a pre-medicine track including Two semesters of General Biology or Zoology, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and General Physics with labs and experiment credits. College-level Math courses such as Pre-Calculus, Computer Science, Statistics, etc. are accepted.

AND

A minimum of 60 hours of undergraduate college or university-level coursework.

Please note the following during the application process:

The language of instruction for all programs is English. Upon formal review, applicants from non-English speaking countries may be asked to submit documentation of proficiency in English (English courses, TOEFL, IELTS or equivalent).

NOTE: Students from non-English speaking countries if they are from an English medium school, they do not require TOEFL as basic English courses are included for such students.
