McMASTER ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT DIPLOMA (MELD)

MELD is a two-term, full-time intensive bridging program in English language development and acculturation. Students accepted into MELD will have qualified for admission to undergraduate
studies in a specific program, but do not meet the English language requirements. Admission is by
selection. Applicants are given an offer of admission to their program of choice, conditional upon
successful completion of the MELD diploma.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

You will be required to submit an English Language Test if you have not:

• Resided in an English-speaking country for at least four years immediately prior to September OR

• Attended an English-medium educational institution in a full-time academic (non-ESL) program for at least four years immediately prior to September.

Official documentation from the school is required for this exemption. The Admission

Committee reserves the right to still require a test of English at its discretion.
