PhD by Research
The University welcomes applications from prospective students wishing to pursue independent postgraduate study in the area of Business and Theology. The university is active in the area of postgraduate supervision and currently has research students at Masters (Research), Ph.D. and Doctoral levels engaging in research across a wide range of areas relating to Business, management and theology.
The university Ph.D. programme is a development of the traditional Ph.D., where students select an area of enquiry and complete their doctoral thesis under the supervision of a designated supervisor. Prospective students must outline their area of interest in a brief initial proposal which is considered by the School.
As such, the university strongly advises those considering application to consult informally with university in relation to their research proposal, in advance of a formal application to the Dean of Research Studies. PhD by Publication
Open Christian University offers the opportunity to researchers and academic professionals who have published their academic work in recognised journals to apply for a PhD by Publication. This degree aims to demonstrate that the work submitted for evaluation is an original contribution to the advancement of knowledge, and that the applicant will be awarded this degree in recognition of an existing body of work, rather than a completely new research project.
The award allows people who have not followed the traditional academic route to earn a PhD by Publication degree to obtain academic recognition for having undertaken and produced research, and developed their research skills and subject knowledge to doctoral level. Basically, an application requires publishing a minimum of four articles/research papers (around 8000 to 10000 words each) during a peer-reviewed journal before they submit their doctoral application for evaluation.
Aoolication requirements
To be considered for a PhD by publication, you’ll need to have held a postgraduate degree or any Level 7 qualification. To apply you’ll need:
- To submit a CV,
- To submit a full list of the published works on which the application is based,
- A personal statement of about 500 words setting out your purpose.

However, students pursuing academic programs leading to degrees awarded by these universities are required to pay an additional degree validation fees, which vary by the university.Students should inquire about these additional fees before starting their studies so that they can plan the cost of the study with full accuracy.

Postdoctoral Qualifications
Doctor of Science (DSc.)
Doctor of Science is an academic research degree awarded in a number of countries throughout the world. This higher doctorate degree is awarded in recognition of a substantial and sustained contribution to scientific knowledge beyond that required for a Doctor of Philosophy and the applicant requires completing at least one year of research at the university.
This POSTDOCTORAL qualification is awarded to a number of students who demonstrate significant work in research programmes as well as innovative practical solutions in the field in which they operate.
Honorary Degrees
Honorary doctorate
Open Christian University and its independent colleges/centres can award a small number of honorary doctorate degrees (Dr hc – honoris Causa) per year on a selective basis to distiquished individuals who merit exceptional recognition for substantial achievements and distinction in a field or activity consonant with the mission of the university and its independent colleges/centre as articulated in the Statement of Purpose.
The University honorary doctorate degrees can be offered in areas like Christian Education, Christian Leadership and Management, Christian Entrepreneurship and Community Development in order to encourage creativity, values, sustainability and lifelong education for every person in this world.
The candidates for Honorary degrees can be nominated by the Board of Directors, Deans of different colleges and Country Directors, Current and former faculty and staff as well as the current students and alumni.
