Departments under the School of Performing Arts
School of Indian Studies (SIS)
The School of Indian Studies which was functioning as the Department of Languages since 1976 was set up in 1998. The School has grown today into one of the most important School of the Institute with more than 30 highly qualified and trained academic staff in the grade of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor.
The School consists of 7 Departments namely: Department of Hindi Studies, Urdu Studies, Tamil Studies, Telugu Studies, Marathi Studies, Creative Writing and Publications and Language Resource Centre. The Departments have established links with various universities outside Mauritius.
Besides teaching at diploma, undergraduate and post-graduate levels, the academic staff members are also involved in research in their respective fields of study.
They are also involved in the supervision and evaluation of M.Phil and Ph.D research projects. The School caters for Teacher Training Programmes at both primary and secondary levels in collaboration with MIE and the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research.
