The King’s University Education Program Requirements
Education Program Requirements
Admission into King’s Education After-Degree program is for Fall term only. This is a competitive program for admission, and there are three distinct application dates to be aware of:

Documents Required for Application
In addition to submitting an application and final official post-secondary transcripts, applicants will be required to submit the following supplementary documents:
A signed detailed statement of significant work experience with children or adolescents.
This statement must be written and signed by the applicant. The work experience can be volunteer or paid experience. In the event that the applicant has multiple experiences to write about, they are encouraged to do so as it demonstrates a stronger ongoing commitment to working with children and adolescents
A signed detailed confirmation of work experience with children of adolescents from a supervisor.
This statement must be written and signed by the supervisor. Applicants who provide multiple examples in their personal statements are still only required to submit one confirmation of work experience.
A signed essay (750-1000 words) outlining their philosophy of Education.
Applicants who have completed EDUC 300 at King’s are not required to submit this essay.
Proof of double vaccination with a Government of Canada approved Covid-19 vaccine. Rapid exams will not be accepted.
Schools currently require all staff, including student teachers, to be fully vaccinated. All successful applicants to the Bachelor of Education After-Degree program complete two practicum placements in program, and therefore must be fully vaccinated in order to be eligible to meet this requirement.
Please note that applicants who hold international credentials (other than from the USA) must provide a WES course-by-course assessment as part of their documentation requirements.
Applicants who already hold an Education credential from another country are considered Special Status applicants. Please find the admission requirements specific to Special Status applicants at the bottom of this webpage.
ELEMENTARY EDUCATION AFTER-DEGREE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Students applying to the Elementary Education After-Degree program must meet the following academic prerequisite requirements*:
A 3-year or 4-year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
A minimum 2.50 GPA in the last 60 credits of study
Breadth of study prerequisite courses:
a. 6 credits English
b. 3 credits in each of the following: Canadian Studies, Math, Natural Sciences, History, Fine Arts, and Social Sciences.
Eligible applicants may be contacted for an interview with the Dean of Education.
There may space within the B.Ed. program to finish some of these course requirements if needed. This will be assessed on an individual basis.
SECONDARY EDUCATION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Students applying to the Secondary Education After-Degree program must meet the following academic prerequisite requirements:
A 3-year or 4-year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
A minimum 2.50 GPA in the last 60 credits of study
33 credits in a teachable major (see below)
18 credits in a teachable minor (see below)
Breadth of study prerequisite courses:
a. 6 credits English
b. 3 credits in at least two of the following areas (may not overlap with teachable major and minor): Canadian Studies, Natural Sciences, History, Fine Arts, Social Sciences, and Math.
Eligible applicants may be contacted for an interview with the Dean of Education.
There may space within the B.Ed. program to finish some of these course requirements if needed. This will be assessed on an individual basis.

Biology/ Environmental Studies (Biology, Environmental Studies, Environmental Economics, Human Geography, GIS, Philosophy of the Environment, Theology of Creation)
Chemistry
CTS: Business (Accounting, Business, Finance, Human Resources, Management, Marketing)
CTS: Computing Science
Drama
English Language Arts
General physical sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Physical Geography)
General sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Physical Geography, Mathematics, Computing Science)
Mathematics
Music
Physical Education (Physical education, Kinesiology, physical activity)
Social Studies (Anthropology, Economics, History, Human Geography, Interdisciplinary Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Theology/Religious Studies)
Additional minor teaching areas:
Art (Studio Art, Art History)
Physics
Second Languages (Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Punjabi, Spanish, Ukrainian)
For majors or minors with courses from more than one subject, at least three subjects must be presented with senior courses in at least two.
Minors in Physics and Second Languages must be completed before admission.
Students Who Already Have an Education Credential
Students who already have an Education credential from another country are considered Special Status students at King’s. We do consider Special Status students for admission into our Bachelor of Education After-Degree program, but it is subject to room in the program. As such, Special Status applicants are waitlisted until August 15.
Special Status applicants will follow the same application procedures as outlined on this page. Additionally, Special Status applicants will be required to submit a copy of the letter provided to them by Alberta Education outlining the classroom hours and coursework required in order to be eligible for teacher certification in Alberta.
For applicants who have not yet had their international credentials evaluated by Alberta Education, that process can be initiated on the Government of Alberta website.
