International Students Requirements

International applicants require an F1 or J1 visa in order to travel to the United States.

The admission qualifications for international students are the same as domestic students with the addition of documented proof of English proficiency. Refer to the other student types (Freshmen, Transfer or Graduate) for program qualifications.

Proof of English Proficiency

For international applicants, one of the following proofs of English proficiency is required:

  • TOEFL test score
    • Associate and Bachelor applicant minimum TOEFL score: 71 iBT
    • Master and Doctoral applicant minimum TOEFL score: 79 iBT
  • IELTS test score
    • Associate and Bachelor applicant minimum IELTS score: 6.0 Overall Band
    • Master and Doctoral applicant minimum IELTS score: 6.5 Overall Band
  • Completed waiver form
  • Student Visa and Other Requirements

After admission, international students are required to provide specific documents as part of the visa process. Connect with International Student Services early to get the process started.

Required transcripts will be listed on the portal home page after the application is submitted. Log back in to the Application Portal to review requirements and admission status. Find more information on the Transcripts page.

International Student Deadlines

  • Fall Semester: June 15              
    • UAA must receive all required documentation by July 15
  • Spring Semester – November 1st          
    • UAA must receive all required documentation by November 20

Note: UAA does not admit international (F/J visa students) to summer.
